We had a blast premiering our workshop production of Fondly, Collette, written by Sibyl Kempson, at Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis, MN. Inspired by the work of Jane Bowles and Mary Shelley, as well as The Women, Fondly is a gothic story about a middle-aged couple overcome by the ancient mysteries within their quiet home.

Reading at New Dramatists with Wallace Shawn
Had the chance to take part in this amazing reading of Wallace Shawn’s OUR LATE NIGHT, a play he hadn’t heard read in the US in 30 years. Sexually charged, bizarre, provocative stuff. Fascinating conversation with New Dramatist Resident Playwright Francine Volpe and Mr. Shawn afterward. The excellent cast included Lisa Joyce, Gibson Frasier, Andrew Garman and yours truly. Directed by the New Group’s Ian Morgan.
Will I ever find a person of color with a racially neutral narrative? Sigh…

Curtain Call Shuffle
Thanks to all who came out to Joe’s Pub for Hollow Roots, a new solo play by Christina Anderson, directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz. Look for it as part of The Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival Jan 9-20, 2013!
In Hollow Roots, a woman traverses a nameless urban landscape plagued by a question: can a person of color have a “neutral narrative”? A spare and intimate setting evolves into a vivid world painted in detailed observations and marked by memories, music, history, candy, maps, and circumstance. Tapping into the rich and complicated genre of one person plays by writers such as Wallace Shawn and Spalding Grey, playwright Christina Anderson (Good Goods, Inked Baby), director Lileana Blain-Cruz (Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights) and performer April Matthis (Lear, The Sound and the Fury) interrogate the concept of cultural identity. Can someone live a life unaffected by one’s race or gender?
